Conversion disorder is when someone shows psychological stress in physical ways. The symptoms can be very severe, ranging from blindness, to seizures or paralysis. For example, a woman who believes it is not acceptable to have violent feelings may suddenly feel numbness in her arms after becoming so angry that she wanted to hit someone.

Another example would be someone whose afraid to give a speech, becomes physically unable to speak before the event. One more is when in wartime, some soldiers undergoing heavy stress but not wounded were hospitalized because they could not walk or speak after the battle.

People who have conversion disorder are not making up their symptoms. This condition is real. It causes distress and cannot be turned on and off at will. (Source) (Source) (Masterpost of Human Mind & Brain Interactions)

I'm planning out a Stoick and Gobber friendship fic, starting with their first meeting ("The baby's so wrinkly!") and with important excerpts until they actually become good friends, so on and so forth until the funeral scene and a lil' epilogue. But I want to make sure I have consistent characterization. So, Stobber friendship analysis? Characterization?thanks love your blog!

Hello, put this in my drafts, where asks go to die.  I’m so sorry.  It’s probably too late, but I’ll just talk a bit about these two anyway since I think they’re stellar.

Okay, so Gobber and Stoick.  Childhood buddies.  Hooligans, born and raised.

An unlikely friendship came of the boys.  Gobber, at ten, would watch the young, 5-year-old heir.  Stoick had a lot of brass at that age; Gobber had a lot of sass. It was a good combination.

They grew competitive in their youth: comparing heights, weights, hair, limbs.  Athletics.  Despite Gobber’s advantage in age, Stoick’s impressive physical stature helped him keep up with the older boy in many, many respects until he began to overtake Gobber in their late teens.

Gobber was always in good humor about it, and his personal competitive streak had a limit.  Stoick’s first real growth spurt had Gobber throwing his arms up in “defeat”.

HTTYD Ship Week 3: Stobber

I wanted to highlight their relationship through touch.  Ship them as lovers, friends, or family, it doesn’t matter.

"I saw this elderly gentleman dining by himself, with an old picture of a lady in front of him. I though maybe I could brighten his day by talking to him.

As I had assumed, she was his wife. But I didn’t expect such an interesting story. They met when they were both 17. They dated briefly, then lost contact when he went to war and her family moved. But he said he thought about her the entire war. After his return, he decided to look for her. He searched for her for 10 years and never dated anyone. People told him he was crazy, to which he replied “I am. Crazy in love”. On a trip to California, he went to a barber shop. He told the barber how he had been searching for a girl for ten years. The barber went to his phone and called his daughter in. It was her! She had also been searching for him and never dated either.

He proposed immediately and they were married for 55 years before her death 5 years ago. He still celebrates her birthday and their anniversary. He takes her picture with him everywhere and kisses her goodnight.

Some inspiring things he said;

"I was a very rich man. Not with money, but with love"

"I never had a single argument with my wife, but we had lots of debates"

"People are like candles. At any moment a breeze can blow it out, so enjoy the light while you have it."

"Tell your wife that you love her everyday. And be sure to ask her, have I told you that I love you lately?"

Be sure to talk to the elderly. Especially strangers. You may think that you will brighten their day, but you may be surprised that they can actually brighten yours.”

This is beautiful.

I cried.

this is wonderful and amazing and one of the reasons i volunteer with old people

That awkward moment (for Astrid) when you manage to get your toddler son to sleep but then it turns out your son is not the only child in the house.

A while ago, elusivist gave me the prompt “sleepy Hiccstrid cuddles”. I came up with the idea of this and started it but then got stuck. Now it’s sort of finished (at least I gave up) with some weird color choices. I still like the idea… the drawing, not so much *shrugs* but it’s cute anyway.
